i just realised i initially sent the attached mail to the wrong list.
this is the place where it actually belongs i guess.

--------- hi,

Sorry for the movie here is the debug window message :

According to the QuickTime Errors, -9459 means:
kQTVisualContextNotAllowedErr = -9459, /* Returned if a visual context cannot be used */

Launch the System Profiler application, then select File > Save As... to save a report and send it to me privately - thanks

i had exactly the same problem with playing QTmovies in a QCpatch, although the graphics-card supports quartz-extreme.
i found that i my case the problem was caused by a second videocard that doesn't support Quartz-extreme, eventhough QC reports that it's rendering on the first card.
disabling the second card by detaching the monitor solved the problem for me.

is this a bug in QuartzComposer?
if it is a bug i wonder if there's a solution or workaround, so that i can still use that additional card for attaching an extra monitor (e.g. for code-editting).

if it's not a bug and this should usually just work, i'd like to know what i am doing wrong, because somehow i do remember that i've been running patches with QTmovies in the past on the same configuration.

i guess that if this is normal behaviour, i should just buy a new mac...

thanks
.
