This works, though it is a serious hack. Two main problems. First,
since I can't seem to make the length of the story determine the
speed of the scrolling (it creates some loop that QC won't allow me
to do), I had to truncate every story to a fixed width. This also
means that I am not able to string stories end to end for a
continuous scrolling ticker. It has to break between each.
The other problem is dialing the font size and image width in for a
crisp font when this is displayed at the bottom of a full screen nib.
The text becomes aliased and look bad. It also jitters as it scrolls
rather than being a smooth travel across the screen.
The content will eventually pull from internal rss feeds, but right
now, the quality and functionality of this QC piece is just not there.
Has anyone else made a ticker in QC? My other option may be to just
ditch QC, and write this all in Cocoa/Quartz, but I am far from
knowing what I need in order to pull that off. I really need some
help with this, or some guidance on where to locate one already made.
This is a key part of a tool we are trying to put together for the
school. Back to my Programming with Quartz book to see if there is
another way outside of QC.
Thanks,
Chris
