Very interesting discovery, Rosyna. I have just reproduced the
problem in Quartz Composer. You're right - it's quite a pause.
I also noticed that I can reproduce "jitters" in Quartz Composer by
doing something like flipping a widget in the Dashboard. Yet when I
run one of my custom window flipping actions (implemented in QC) in a
custom view, the Quartz Composer window doesn't jitter at all.
It's as though provoking the graphics card from outside of QC
competes with it and causes jitters/pauses, but if everything is done
via QC it is perhaps all getting interleaved into the same CG
pipeline at the framework level?
I have no theories on why using HIMovieView alleviates the problem.

Lately I've noticed that Quartz Composer documents are "pausing"
for a short time while a menu is opening or while a menu is closing
in the application playing the document. This happens in my QCViews
and within the Quartz Composer application itself. I've noticed,
however, this does not happen when playing a Quartz Composer
document via HIMovieView.
Is there anyway to work around this? I'm not even too sure why it
is happening to QCView and not HIMovieView. The pause is very
noticeable on menu closes as it's paused during the entire menu
fade-out.
Has anyone else noticed this?
