Unable to Import QC Composition into iMovie or iDVD

I've created a set of relatively simple QC compositions - a bunch spinning cubes.

It seems to be able to render the ones used in the menu's successfully. But right after it starts encoding the video portion it stops with "Error during rendering/encoding"

The last time I tried pulling either a .qtz or an exported .mov (from QC) into iMovie - it took about 20 min, (for a 5 min composition) - and the video was corrupted (it appeared to be one line of pixels stretched out to fill the screen )

I've searched the lists, the net, and developer.apple.com - and seen no issues of this sort. Could I have a broken installation?

Another Quirk has been in exporting a composition to quicktime and then to DV - the results are consistently ugly. Looking at the properties of the resultant movie shows the size to be something like: "720 x 480 - actually: 640 x 480" - going in and explicitly changing the size in the export dialog to 720 x 480, or even HD give the same result -the exported movies are all 640x480 and loaded with jaggies. Exporting as DivX works fine - crisp output at 720x480 no jaggies. so I'm not really suspect of the whole shebang, but both the DV Stream Export, and QuickTime export as DV turn out the same.

Thanks!
'Brian

System info:

G4,1GHzm 768MB RAM, 10.4.8, latest updates,

I've tried to sift through my logs to see if I could find anything..

I had a 'random crash' playing with the same thing that resulted in:
Sun Jan 7 23:09:27 2007 crashdump[20679]: Failed to re-launch / Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/MacOS/iDVD - CGSError: 1025!

A bit later this appears in the system.log (but is not generated at the same time the encoding video error shows up)
Jan 7 23:49:07 mac /Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/MacOS/iDVD: CGImageDestinationCreate capacity parameter is zero\n

grepping through the logs I don't see anything else that looks intersting. _______________________________________________
