Fastest image format for QC?

Hello,

I am rendering a scene consisting of multiple objects, using a QC composition to draw each object. The inputs are an image representing the object (to which the composition applies some effects), and a few numerical parameters. Since the number of possible objects is quite vast (on the order of thousands), and the set of objects displayed in a given frame changes constantly, I use a single QCRenderer and change its inputs as needed to draw each object.

Setting the input image incurs a considerable performance penalty, as the source NSImage is re-rendered into an internal QCGLCGImage each time. Is there an image format that QC can use directly, without converting it to a different internal representation? Is it possible to pass images already in the form of OpenGL textures?

Thanks,
Camillo
