Hi John,

Thanks for the suggestion, a CVImageBuffer was exactly what I needed.
I later realized that TN2143 seems to hint at the fact that CVImageBuffers are used directly when it says that:


Images passed to Quartz Composer as NSImages or CGImageRefs will be resized to fit in the maximum texture size on the video card (typically 2048x2048 or more). On the other hand, CIImages and CVImageBuffers bigger than the maximum texture size are not resized and may fail to display properly.

Perhaps the advantage of using CVImageBuffers should be stated more explicitly; in my application, it pays off to convert the image into a different format ahead of time, contrary to the TN's advice ("pass images using the closest type from their original sources").
