In this case, yes, it's pretty straight forward but it is easy to miss.
You will notice the composition has a couple of patches with grey
inputs (the little circles on the left). Those are published
parameters. If you open the Viewer and click Parameters in the toolbar
(or hit cmd-t) you will see those published parameters which controls
how the composition works. You can set the durations there.
Also note that any port that is published is editable from within the
application that is hosting it. In the case of screen savers, you can
push the "Options" button and change those durations there.
