Re: Image Histogram to Midi CCs - Leopard

I don't think anyone has answered because it's not clear what your question is.

One thing I'm noticing from your graph is that you are mixing a structure of image data with a composition* which is meant to be used on Audio structures. I really don't know what that's going to do :)

* The Audio Processor is a composition, not a real patch. You can look at the behind-the-scenes composition used for that Virtual patch at
/System/Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Patches
NOTE: Since this composition is loaded at runtime, you don't want to modify it or you'll permanently affect all the audio visualizers on the system.

Hi all Sorry my first post is a question, but i'm struggling with this. I'm trying to create a QC patch which sends Image Histogram data from QC, splits it into RGB data, sends the separate channels out as MIDI CC information so i can kind of do video > audio control. In other words, the colours of my video clip control midi CCs in Live. Its for an art piece and it'd be great to enable the video to drive the filters/delays/Eqs on the music. This is a picture of my lame attempt at the moment, and i'm getting the odd bit of data but nothing useful... http://homepage.mac.com/bighairmusic/ableton/QCpatchHistogram.jpg I'm using a movie loader, taking the image out of that into the image histogram patch, then splitting it (via the audio processor patch - i can't go direct into a math patch for some reason) into R, G and B, and then via a math patch to multiply the 0>1 scale i goto the midi CCs.

I'm on Leopard, 10.5.2 Any thoughts would be very appreciated as i've got a deadline pressing!

Thanks alot

My fairly simple Quartz compositions won't play in Keynote 4.0.2 on
a one moth old Mac Book Pro with system 10.5.1 and QuickTime 7.4.1
They do play in QuickTime, that is: Only the .qtz files, not the
exported .mov files.
I run the demo verson of Keynote on this machine.

Any hint on where to start looking for a solution?

Anything interesting showing up in the logs on the Leopard machine
(Console.app) ?  It sounds like a possible safe-mode issue, but I
don't know anything about keynote so I could be completely wrong.

I know I've mentioned this a couple of times, but I'd
really like a definitive answer on this one.

Multi-pass GLSL shaders in Quartz Composer:
possible/not possible?
possible in a future release/never going to happen?

Cheers,

The first thing to check is that you have a consumer (a pink patch)
connected to the composition loader to pull values through.

Also, make sure that the inputs the composition loader exactly match
the Published inputs of the composition you are trying to load. If you
are creating a composition from a protocol, you can use the dropdown
menu at the bottom of the settings to autoconfigure for that protocol,
and the ports will be named correctly. If you are creating ports
manually, the interface is a bit odd in that it requires you to type
the name first, then push the plus button to add it.

If that doesn't help, you may want to send a simple composition
showing what is not working.

I am trying to get the Composition Loader to work with so far very
limited success.  Using the Composition Loader from the Patch
Creator I am not able to get the patch to send any output.  It
allows me to choose an input for the Composition Loader but not
matter what I enter as a value no other input values or outputs
become available.  After getting nothing out of this patch I copied
the Composition Loader from the Music Visualizer example and tried
to work with this one.  This one is a Source (is actually pink)
while the one I get from the Patch Creator says it is a Source but
shows up green as a Tool.  I am able to get other compositions to
load by using the copied Composition Loader, but no inputs are
published so I cannot pass any values to the selected file.

What am I doing wrong with the Composition Loader?
