Re: 3D in documents allover MacOS X : a proof of concept (using Quartz Composer)

Recently, I had some thoughts about embedding 3D data in Keynote. I have made an enhancement request to Apple (for info, 5967419), but I was a little frustrated to be bound to "wait and see".
So, I have made some experiments that were rather successful, using Quartz Composer as a bridge to display and rotate a 3D model from within a document.

You might end up being a bit disappointed: Keynote only allows "Safe- Mode" patches, and any plugin you create will not load in safe mode. Thus, you cannot write a model loader plugin, and have it work in keynote (unless you choose to use the unofficial API). We've (kineme.net) been working on this same thing, with fairly good results. http://vimeo.com/805673

Do not hesitate to send me comments, I really think that this idea can make its way.

There's definitely potential for this. It's slightly dangerous territory, because as soon as people start using it, they request all kinds of features to make QC into Maya, PovRay, and other high-end tools, which isn't really practical for smaller development teams :) And then there's Physics, particle effects, dynamic mesh generation.... it never stops :)
