I've hit this one too. Can't remember what I did to get this to happen, unfortunately...
I don't get it when following your steps though.
I always have the QC prefs set to 'Do nothing', and 'Show both editor and viewer', so conditions wouldn't have been exactly as you've described.

Open a composition by double-clicking it in Finder (on the desktop is handy) -- only a visualizer should open (if the patch creator opens, close it, quit QC, and try again).


Press cmd-enter to open the patch creator. It should be empty (contains no patches etc), and say "Empty Selection", with no way to add patches.<EmptyPC.png>


Can anyone reproduce this? If so, let me know and I'll file a bug...
