Nope.  According to DTS it is a _feature_ that LS prioritizes extensions
over HFS types.

Matt, we have the exact same problem as you, with let another file
format that also uses .img.  Conflicting file extensions are a fact of
life, and LS/UTIs have no way to reconcile them.  Prioritizing extension
over HFS type compounds the problem.

In my opinion, the OS needs the following:
 1) prioritize HFS type over extension, at least in cases where there
are two UTIs on the system that both claim the same extension.
 2) UTIs can currently be specified by: HFS type, extension, MIME type.
Add another way: allow the file contents to be examined.

I encourage you to file bugs; duplicates raise priority.
