Quicktime Effect Timing

Hello,

Working on some Quicktime effects that depend on the time parameter, but
having trouble finding the right way to access it. I'm using Dimmer2Effect
as a starting point, and right now there's two ways to access absolute timing
that I can see:

effect->frameTime.value

or

glob->frameNumber.

Within the Quicktime Filter dialog box, only the first of these parameters
seems to change; and on export, only the second seems to change. What's the
most consistent way to get an absolute measure of time for rendering a given
frame of a movie? (e.g. for a given frame, I need a way to find that it's
46.77 seconds from the beginning (say), or just some absolute measure of
time, that I can convert to a floating-point value in seconds.) I hope this
is clear enough.

Thanks,

Ben
