Quicktime Network Components

Looking at the list of Quicktime components installed on my system, I find
five or six network components of type 'netw'. I can't find any info on
these. They're components like TCP, UDP and TCPSOCK55 etc.

Is there any way I can use these? Are they on the Windows QT install? I
presume they're used for streaming normally, but I'd love to have 'free'
cross-platform socket access.
