I'm sorry for not being clear.

I need to open and play QT movies (to an offscreen pixmap - no UI involved)
without getting in the way of the main thread or other QT movies already
playing. This is not possible to do if everything is done on the main UI
thread. In particular, opening and pre-rolling the movie tends to cause
other, already playing, movies to stutter significantly.

Ideally, I'd like to have one thread per movie, which is responsible for its
entire lifespan, from opening, pre-rolling to tasking and closing. I'd like
to find a method to do so that works across all supported, multithreaded
OSes (ie, MacOS X and Win32), but my primary concern at this point is Win32.
