NewMovieFromFile

Hi,

I have some code that adds a timecode track to an existing movie file. I call NewMovieFromFile(), add the track, then UpdateMovieResource(). This all works fine for QuickTime .MOV files, but it also completes without error for other types of file.

This is all due to NewMovieFromFile's automagical import-rather-than-open functionality, though in such cases it makes no sense. The code doesn't actually add a new track (to a JPEG image, AVI movie, or raw DV stream, for example) and should report an error in this case.

Is there any way to tell NewMovieFromFile only to open QuickTime movies, or otherwise easily tell that adding a new track to the movie on disk (rather than the in-memory movie) has failed?

On a related note, is there any way to add a timecode track to an MPEG4 file using QuickTime?
