m4b is the file extension iTunes uses for protected AAC files from the iTunes Store. Is that what you are talking about?

Or are you talking about adding chapters to AAC audio files?

What are you actually trying to do?

Hi,

both :)

ChapterTool creates m4b files which are "Audio Books" --> AAC with chapters that allow bookmarking in iTunes/iPods.

As I understand it, only .aa and .m4b files can be bookmarked in iTunes and iPods in this manner...

... overall, yes, I'm trying to get a chapterized and bookmarkable iPod compatible file which may in fact need to be protected sometime down the road. The track types are Text(Chapter), Video (PNG) and audio (AAC). Essentially, I wish to duplicate the functionality of ChapterTool. That's the ideal. I've got everything up to the export working. Am I missing some essential documentation or is Apple holding m4b close to their chest for some reason? ChapterTool is encumbered by Apple's licensing and the source is not available.
