rtsp stream, core video and displaylink

hi list,

using the QTCoreVideo101.app as an example, i'm having trouble getting the frames of an rtsp-stream into a CVBuffer.
i observed similair behaviour when trying to play an rtsp-stream in QuartzComposer.
i have the impression that this has to do with the stream somehow not having a real framerate/timebase.

i tried opening the .sdp file in quicktime player and save it to a containing movie-file, which didn't help.

then, using LiveStage Pro, a colleague created a movie-file that contains the .sdp file that i want to play, plus a clear timebase/ framerate, and that works like a charm.

now i wondered, how would i get this to work without having to go through a thrird party application such as livestage?
