How to extract audio channel num and sample rate for muxed MPEG-1 files?

There is a note as below to using MovieAudioExtractionGetProperty(.) to get audio meta data. http://developer.apple.com/quicktime/audioextraction.html

NOTE: the audio extraction API currently only mixes audio from sound tracks. Other media types, such as muxed MPEG-1 audio inside a program stream, are not currently supported.

So how to extract audio meta from muxed MPEG files?
