Lifting songs off iPod

Hello QuickTimers,

I checked Apple's various audio mailing lists and none seems to be better
suited than good ol' QT-API so forgive me in advance.

Like the rest of the audio developers out there, I would like to lift music
files off my iPod. So, like the rest of the world, I Google it up and find
lots of free/shareware that does it, as well as info about files to look
for, how to parse them etc if I want to develop it myself. So, technically,
it seems that this is doable, or even common knowledge.

But I'm worried: I don't see any official SDK/documentation on iPod
directory/file structure and am wondering will apple's big legal guys come
after me if I release something which lifts iPod music files? Is there an
approved path to go down for this kind of thing?

Thanks
Culann
