iSight: what's the real resolution?

As noted previously in this list, a call SGGetSrcVideoBounds() when using an iSight returns 1600 x 1200 -- which Brad Ford indicated is the highest possible resolution supported by the IIDC spec. What I'd like to be able to find out is the _true_ resolution that will be given by the camera before I start capturing.

I can access this information in my Frame Grab proc, by looking at the width and height in the ImageDescription handle for the incoming data. If memory serves, the external FW iSight gives 640x480. The internal iSight in my MacBookPro is definitely giving a 320x240 image. Obviously, there's a lot of inconsistency here.

So, I would very much to know what the true resolution will be _before_ I start capturing, as my application needs to know this to do some matrix preparation, etc.

Is there any way to reliably get this information prior to actually starting a capture?

Best Wishes,
Mark
