The 'b' in b64a, b48r, b32a and b16g stands for "big-endian".

Thanks for that enlightening arcanum, Sam! I had never deduced that, despite the obvious meaning of the 'B' in 'B555' and 'B565', which mnemonically contrast with 'L555' and 'L565'.
