On a positive note, Quicktime capture API's are somewhat in flux at
the moment -- QTKit capture was introduced last WWDC.  As we
modernize our capture API's and implementation, we are definitely
looking to shore up the Sequence Grabber's current inadequacies, and
we do recognize the lack of modern closed captioning API as one of
those shortcomings.

At the same time, I'd like to raise my hand and say "API for data code extraction, please"...data code, the video equivalent of EXIF in DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, and HDV--precise time of day, camera aperture and shutter info, and so on--is increasingly important, as is, of course, the associated timecode.
