This is Part Two because the @#%#$$%$% List mom won't allow e-mails bigger than 12 kilobytes of text. 3) The tiny postage stamp sized <320x240 preview area that the current SG uses is ridiculous and has to go for a variety of reasons (i.e. for many cameras I deal with maximum exposure times vary with video sizes - so shrinking it to a postage stamp limits what the user can set times to). What we need to do is Split the SG up into two areas, a function call for selecting devices and configuring the basic Size related properties (i.e. video format, video sizes, input types like NTSC / PAL /SECAM , non interlaced fields versus progressive versus interlaced frames , rotation etc.) devices to use and a function call for manipulating image properties (brightness, exposure, gamma, color gains, exposure times, mirror, flip etc.) of the selected device. When manipulating the visual properties of the selected device, that would be done in the current preview area at current size. Compression settings can either be in a separate dialog or perhaps merged with the visual properties.
4) Get rid of the polling needed in VDCompressDone() to extract a frames which wastes hordes of CPU cycles and change it to a callback. Yes that will be tough to implement when you've got codecs that are or are not thread safe - but polling on a multithreaded preemptive system is way past it's prime. 5) Get Steve to open up the purse a little bit (heck, use maybe 0.1% of the interest they may make for a day), hire some technical writers / engineers and deliver some updated documentation on how this is all supposed to work too. There is no point in making all sorts of changes and then not documenting and providing real usable workable code for it. Either deliver an complete solution or just forget about it as you'll just make things worse than they are currently. Thats' my $0.02 CDN thoughts on it. Milton J.
