I have done some investigation on this and found that
we can stream movies located in "sites" folder

...

In my app i need to stream a movie from folder which is other than "SItes".

My knowledge of QuickTime is lacking, but the answer to this question has nothing to do with QuickTime and there's nothing you can do about it from within the application. You need to google around and learn how to share other folders in OS X.

In Leopard it's easy (in the Sharing tab). In Tiger and earlier versions, it's a bit harder and in either case, security is an important consideration. The details, however, have nothing to do with QuickTime, so this list isn't really the place to discuss it.
