Dear friends,

Due to the QuickTime compatibility of commercial video I/O boards there is a lack of OSX SDKs for specific control.
This is OK for video I/O, but would it be possible to retrieve video reference timing and to issue serial machine control commands from and to the boards via the QuickTime interface? If not, is there an alternative?

No. QuickTime's sequence grabber and video output interfaces have never done device control. QTKit Capture supports device control in limited configs (DV and HDV devices, currently). The alternative would be to use IOKit directly to talk to your deck through some usb- >RS422 or RS232 converter. That's the most common way of doing device control currently.

We're interested in making QTKit's device control support better as well. If there's a particular class of controls that you'd like to see implemented, please file an enhancement request at bugreport.apple.com.
