a) you're using different file systems? HFS+ or something else?
I've tried it on Mac OS Extended, Journaled, Case-sensitive, and Case-
sensitive Journaled. All the same result.
b) you're using different versions of Mac OS X?
Some of those who tested it are on 10.4, some are on 10.5. I believe
everyone has QT 7.4.5 though. It's not easy for me to test other
versions.
c) the file Today:Friday.txt already exists/doesn't exist/is/isn't
readable/writable, does or doesn't contain a reference movie that
has a data ref with a bad path, etc. etc.
d) the file system is/isn't case sensitive and you also have a file
called today:friday.txt or TODAY:FRIDAY.TXT
It's not supposed to exist, and it's not a permissions issue.
e) you also have or don't have a file or directory called Today
The directories definitely do exist.
Even if you're using an API that accepts a POSIX path it wouldn't
surprise me if QuickTime converted it to an FSSpec or something
internally, so it's very plausible that a difference which seems
like it shouldn't make a difference *does* make a difference in
practice.
I don't know about an FSSpec, but I think we've proven that it
(poorly) converts it to HFS paths.
