I've been working with 3 HV20's and I'm also experiencing problems
similar to yours. In my case I sent a question (with code) to this
list, but I hadn't any answer. I suspect the problem is not related
to the HDV codec because (in my case) in DV mode it neither works.
I think it's a qtkit issue, but not for sure.
Thanks Javier for confirming this a bit -- it was starting to drive
me crazy :)
Are you able to test it with dual cameras other than the HV20?
Those tests were fine in my case
I've been able to get non-identical cameras to work reliably (2 or
even 3 at a time), but I'm curious to know if any identical-camera
setup is destined to have this problem (i.e. qtkit uses the device
name as a key instead of the device uid or something). Glad to know
it happens in DV mode too; so it's not just HDV-related.
The best answer I got from a friend from Apple was something like
"Ask the experts in a lab at the WWDC", so now I'm going there with
one HV20 to test it with them. If you are going to the WWDC'08 let
me know to join both questions in one, if not I'll tell you what
I've been said.
We'll be at WWDC, but I won't have the cameras (I don't own them,
it's a user report that I'm working with). Won't you need two
cameras to have them test it? :) I'm anxious to hear of any
workaround for this -- it's causing quite a few problems lately for
us.
I'll be there with just one (it's not mine).
There's a little trick that you could use: Quartz Composer can use the
HV20 properly, so probably you could create and use a Quartz
Composition as a fast workaround. I couldn't do it because the kind of
software I'm involved with, but can you?
Another stupid thing is that you need Final Cut installed to use HDV
on your system... I'm telling you just to be sure because you told you
didn't test in DV mode.
