TN 2125 says:
Asynchronous completion callbacks have always been called from special
threads and must be thread-safe. These threads are not the same thread
that is performing the operation; this behavior has not changed in Mac
OS X 10.3.
It sure looks like my async completion proc is called from the same
thread as CompressSequenceFrame!
