RE: QTJ 6 Windows install

Hi Dave,

We've encountered some similar problems. What we found was that if you install QT6 when a JRE has been previously installed, than QTJava will be installed. IF however, your app is installed with a local JRE (such as those installed by Install Anywhere) which the Quicktime Installer can't see, than QTJava isn't automatically installed. Unfortunately, I don't know how to override this.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare for and handle all of the various QT5/QT6 + java installation situations?

Note: Even if they do succeed in calling QT6 they may also encounter bugs if you haven't released your app with the QT6 QTJava.dll.

Any suggestions? Apple folks, the installer for QT6 is a trouble maker. Please map out the proper installation path.

Thanks,
Laura Ferguson

From what I understand, if you install QT6 (without custom install), you
can't later "add" QT for Java. Is this true? I know that with QT5 you
could use the updater to add QT for Java later.

The issue is if an app shipped with QT (5) for Java, and the user then
uninstalls QT5 and installs QT6 (non-custom install, unaware that there is
an app using QT for Java), the app will fail when trying to use QT for Java.
The only workaround is to then uninstall QT6 completely and reinstall it
using a custom install.

Sorry if this is an issue that has already been brought up, I haven't kept
up with the list much, but I didn't see anything actually asking about this.

Thanks,

Dave
