Re: QT DV Capture Bug (Ryan Henderson)

Phillip,

I don't think that the problem is only at the file permissions. I'm having similar problems
capturing from a DV converter, but I have a additional bug. When opening the captured file
with Quicktime Pro, at the same machine, I can't edit the movie. Quicktime shows a message:

"Couldn't complete the Copy operation because QuicktimePlayer is getting low on memory."
That occurs even with tiny movies and using a PowerMac G4 with 1GB RAM.
After exporting the movie, everything works fine.
With QT 6.0.1, there is no problem at all.
I do believe that this is a QT 6.0.2 bug.

The bug may be in the 10.2.2 file permissions handling not in QT. I
have seen the following problems since moving to 10.2:

1. folders burned onto CDs under 10.0.4 when copied onto a hard drive
under 10.2 are locked and there is no way I can unlock them or delete
them (not even with rm in the terminal) - shows up as a lock on icon
in Preview in Get Info
2. copied files (QTMovies and FCP projects) from one machine to another
over network, then installed FCP3 on the 2nd machine and it would not
open the project files - both project files and Movie file had blank
icons. Copied again after installing FCP and files are OK. The
problem appears to be that if the application isn't on the machine when
the file is copied to it the file is set as an unknown type and can not
be opened by the application when it is subsequently installed.
