Resource Fork & Quicktime

Hello,
I ftped a large quicktime file (recorded in MyTV) to a remote computer via
the commandline ftp. Attempting to play the movie in Apple's QuickTime
Player results in an error message: "Couldn't open the file 'snippet.mov'
because there is an error in the program.". I am guessing this is because
the commandline tools chomped the resource fork? The file is the same size
on both ends and using 'cp' at the commandline generates the same error on
my machine. Any suggestions? I thought quicktime was an interchange 'format'
and thus wouldn't depend on a resource fork?
