Re: DESPERATION: QTSession.open() CRASHES without JRE !!

Found it !

The cause of the crashes is simple and terrific at the same time:

As soon as I installed the 1.4.1_01 jdk everything worked fine.
QTJava crashes on QTSession.open() when it thinks there's no jre/jdk
installed in your machine (it looks into the registry in order to find it).
This prevents one from packaging and deploying a customized jre with his own
application. THAT'S TERRIFIC, expecially if your app relies on a specific
jre version!

Solution ? QTJava MUST get relevant jvm information from the current
"java"/"javaw" command execution path, not from the registry ! Please Apple
FIX it.

?
I didn't think QTJava looked at the registry at all except when it's being installed. Are you sure it's not a class path issue? If you do a search on your hard drive for QTJava.zip how many copies do you have and where are they? Running your own VM rather than the one specified in the registry would mean you pick up a different lib/ext folder and could well explain why one crashes and the other doesn't.
