Re: QTjava.zip

Helge,

Thanks for the response. I sort of figured that this was going to be the problem.
It's the same for JMF and JAI -- you need dll's which completely stifle the
web app development community.

I mean, it's been my experience that people don't even want to install the
Java plugin to get modern Java. This -- I think -- is the biggest problem
facing Java on the desktop on on the web top.

To answer your p.s. -- I think that the reason this list is not very active is
that there is not a lot of development of QT4J ...

The reason for that -- I think -- rests on our previous discussion. It's
to hard to make a deployable applet that uses QT4J because you have
to install the dll first. And if you are going to do that you might as well
just use the QT viewer...

So -- how do you deploy QTJava applets with the expectation that it will run on *ANY*
machine -- without having the user of that machine install QT6 first?

as far as I know, THIS is impossible.
you clearly need to have quicktime installed on a machine that runs an applet which uses quicktime.
this MUST be clear, the machine renders the images and movies, therefore the technology/software for rendering this must be installed on the machine.

you cannot use QT4Java, to bring Multimedia to other machines through the "backdoor".

helge.

p.s.: by the way is this list usally so unresponsive as here? I am used to a list for webobjects developers, where there is real competency around. my impression of this list is that it ist not really useful for me. do you know other lists which deal with QT4J which are more useful?
