How do you deploy a Java applet/application with the expectation that it will run on *ANY* machine without having the user download
and install Java first? Sure, on more and more machines/OSes/browsers Java is standard, 1) you're never sure on what kind of machine
the user is, so you can't assume it's installed, and 2) even if it's installed, it might be an old version (very common with
browsers that include Java by default).

Here, we solved that in 2 ways :

- On all machines in the house, Java 1.3.1_06 is installed, then Quicktime (custom installation, check QT for Java)
- When a customer requests the use of one of our in-house applications, they do so knowing that it will require about 15 minutes
installation time, which includes downloading the Java runtime, QT and the application from our FTP site (we keep only the right
versions for that purpose) and then installing them. It really isn't that long, just a bit technical. We give them precise
instructions as well. Still, most clients have their network admin call me so I can walk them through it, just so that they don't
run into anything weird.

It isn't a perfect world, true. But it isn't that bad.
