MovieController progress not updating

Sometimes when playing a movie, the progress bar does not advance or update at all. Sometimes it does. I am running on 1.3.1 and wonder if this is a known bug and if there is a workaround. I tried calling activate on the controller (even though it was active already), with no effect. This happens on both 10.2 and 10.3.

What's weird is that when I'm in the state where the progress bar does not update, if I click and hold on the controller's sound icon, the progress bar DOES update. It also moves to the correct position once I pause the movie, but when I start the movie playing again, it does not update.
