when is Apple going to update the deprecated QTJ examples on its website?

They did, a year and a half ago. It's just that the website is so poorly organized that it's easier to find the deprecated stuff than the working stuff. Of course, Apple re-orgs the developer website frequently, so maybe it'll be fixed by the time you read this. :-)

Anyways...

If you're on a Mac and have installed the developer tools, the updated demos are at /Developer/Examples/Java/QTJava - there's a release notes doc, a QTJavaDemo directory of working QTJ 6.1 demos, and a .tar of the old QTJ demos (which still work on Windows or with OSX Java 1.3.1).

If you're on Windows, get the QTJ SDK from http://developer.apple.com/sdk/qtjavasdk.html . It includes updated examples and JavaDoc.
