Elliotte, I'm not trying to be rude, but this is a very (very!) FAQ... you have arrived at the most general solution. You already discovered the rate for movie playback, add one variable to general solution (ie: normal rate is 1.0, twice as fast 2.0, half as fast 0.5 etc). You have yet to discover edits, add more variables (an edit can have a different sample rate to its neighbours). Your formula doesn't account for instantaneous changes in frame rate (ie: if the original frame source was not exactly synchronous, and the duration of the frames vary, the general formula becomes less accurate over a longer timeframe). I know for sure that all this has been covered on this list and is in the archives because I've answered it about twenty times myself in the last five years or so (and I do not exaggerate - look for yourself). Yes, the QT documentation is both huge and disorganised, that is also an FAQ, and not something any of us out here in list land are in a position to fix... perhaps you and Chris Adamson can get together and write the next definitive work on using QT from Java. cheers, dean perry abstract plane pty. ltd. internet broadcasting, QuickTime Vdig for Windows, Vdig Xtra for Director |
