hi,
i'll jump in with my 2 groschen worth as i am pretty heavily invested,
tickled pink by what i managed to do so far, and intriguied by what will
be possible.
i am not sure whether trying to change apple's mind is what would be
best for us. if apple does not see what we can offer to the battle
between quicktime vs other media frameworks, then they are dummer than i
thought. i knew they were always lukewarm at best when it came to java.
i am not lukewarm on java, in contrast, i am into it. having been in the
position of having staked my efforts on one company's whim for one times
too often (borland's turbo pascal, think's lightspeed pascal, apple's
macapp) i always lose much of what i have done. open source is the only
protection against this that i can see and if we do decide on a
concerted effort we might as well focus on that instead. maybe we could
build a library with heavily used classes, and for starters use
quicktime's implementation for the central functionality, and as other
options become available we replace the nuts and bolts with something
that is less tied to one company. maybe we could work with somebody who
is central to the future java media framework plans? i am just plain
sick and tired of redoing the same thing over and over, just because
some bean-counting moron with his eyes only on earbuds says so ...
i guess that was 3 groschen's worth ...
Robert
