I will definitely ask on the quicktime-api list, maybe I should set some kind of parameter to request an immediate update.

How about creating one movie in memory that combines the other two (one on top of the other, or side by side) and playing that?

Alternatively, ask on the quicktime-api list, as this probably isn't specific to QT for Java.
