Why oh why is it that almost every time I try to watch some stream (live or canned) on the internet with QuickTime do I get "Negotiating" then "Requested data"?

I'm running 3 macs on cable modem via a LinkSys DSL router, I opened the 7070 port, I've "auto-transport-setup"'d, I've manually switched to port 7070 because it setups itself to 554.

This has gotten on my nerves a lot, especially since WMP and RealOne are now both available in OSX, and with either it usually works, even if I have to manually copy / paste the URL of the stream into the player.

Chances are that Real and WiMP are using port 80. Go to the QT Control Panel or Preference Pane and select "Connection Tab->Transport Setup->Auto Configure".

If you want to get deeper into the DSL router, open from port 6970 on.

It may be better if you switch your QT Preferences to use port 80.
