Brad,
Makes perfect sense, I was pretty sure the answer was no, but was making
sure. But the good news is that we ARE dealing with only .dv files (not
doing any compression in order to save time.) So I'll give the app a try
and see how it goes. Is there any thought of adding this to QT Player, or
is it too time consuming to be worth the effort? The only reason I've had
to go the QT Player route is because Neither iMovie nor FCP are
applescriptable, but QT Player is wonderful for that.
Thanks again for the quick response!

That won't work. QuickTime Player doesn't support presenting a movie
out to a FireWire device. You have some options:
1) use a PowerBook, iBook, or buy a graphics card with an s-video
output for your PowerMac, and plug straight into the tv. QuickTime
will happily play out onto a TV that is connected to the machine
through an analog output.
2) Download the samplecode to SimpleVideoOut at
ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Sample_Code/QuickTime/Capturing/
SimpleVideoOut.sit
This little app _will_ play QuickTime content out to a firewire device,
with the caveat that the movie must be in dv format, or you won't see
any output.
