Can anyone direct me to the information which would identify what are
the allowable/supported formats for music files that are playable on
the iPod?
Specifically, I am wondering whether the iPod adopts whatever
Quicktime codecs are needed to expand whatever files are downloaded so
they can be converted into samples of playable audio or if there are
just a few formats that are supported by the iPod player software -
and, if so, what are those formats?
iPod supports PCM (WAV, AIFF), AAC, Protected AAC, and MP3. It's not
extendable by third-parties as firmware is provided by Apple and
there's no way to load third-party software.
