Hello,
I am creating a multitracks (11 tracks) application based on quicktime and aimed at being
played in a Macromedia Director environment (for a DVD-Rom). My problem is a de-
synchronisation issue between the different tracks.
The application :
The idea is to create an application being able to combine different video and audio tracks (3
video and 8 audio) in a single quicktime file, played in loop.
The user must be able to switch on or switch off each individual tracks to have a wide range
of combinations. The interface is in Director and the quicktime tracks are controlled through
lingo with the "setTrackEnabled" command.
So I must be able to have 0 to 11 tracks being played at the same time.
The problem :
My main problem is that the different audio tracks get some time desynchronised :
- when the quicktime file is launched for the first time
- when I switch on/off the tracks quickly.
Observations and uncohesive behaviors :
- tracks tend to get synchronised again when the file starts a new loop.
- tracks are perfectly synchronised on a G4 400 Mhz but get desynchronised very easely on a
better computer (G4, 800 Mhz / , PC pentium IV 1,2 Ghz, for example)
Director programming :
- in Director, the quicktime file is NOT played in streaming in order for it to be placed in the
RAM and being fully accessible. The attempt to play the file in streaming doesn't change the
problem.
File format :
So, the quicktime file is made of 3 video tracks and 8 audio tracks. The file is about 30
seconds long and is looped. Each video track is in Cinepak format and each audio track has no
compression (aiff, 22 khz, 16 bits).
The data rate is about 750 Ko/s.
The application is aimed at being played from a DVD-Rom, but the problem occured even
from an hard-drive.
Environnement:
- quick-time 5 and 6
- macromedia director 8.5.1
- macintosh (os 9 and os X) and PC (windows XP)
Thank you for your answers
