Exploring streaming formats beyond 320x240 and seem to have read
somewhere that optimal compressed frame sizes should be divisible
by 8 - or is it 6? Would much appreciate clarification.

divisible by 8 or 16 is a common requirement for optimum configuration of many codecs. 16 to be safe would be my choice.
