Uh-Uh. No go.
When I drag and drop the text file it gives me a little black box in
the upper left of the movie, and what's worse, it appends those text
frames (which, at least it has distributed as I expect, based on the
carriage returns) to the beginning of the movie.
When I use the import command method instead, it just creates a new
movie with the text frame sequence.
If I copy all those frames and "Add Scaled" it pasted those frames into
the upper corner of my movie, covering the original video content.
So I finally just copy the text from the text file and "Add Scaled" .
VOILA!
I get what I kinda expected, but now I need to format the text!
So the book says to "Export" the text track "Text to Text" with
descriptors.
Unfortunately, the file produced does NOT contain my text!!!
It contains only the text formatting descriptor tags!
My goodness, you really seem to be struggling with this.
I guess I wasn't as clear about this as I intended.
When you import a text file, it creates a new movie with
the text distributed in frames, one paragraph (line break)
per frame. You can export that movie as Text to Text
(with descriptors), edit the timestamps to match your
movie times exactly, and import it again. THEN you can
add it to your movie (just Add, not Add Scaled).
Yes, it will put the text in the upper left corner of your
movie, initially. Use Get Movie Properties, choose
the Text Track, and the Size property, and you can
drag the text track to the bottom of the movie.
On second thought, why not use TitleLab (there's a demo
on the CD that came with the book, or you can get a
fresh copy from azine software -- www.azinesoftware.com).
It's a very nice utility that should make it absolutely painless
to accomplish your task.
Hope this helps,
-Steve
