You can also try MAGpie, which is a free tool for creating
captions/subtitles.  It runs on OSX and Windows.

MAGpie will create a Qttext file and a Qtsmil file.  You can use the QTSmil
file, which points to the video and the qttext file, or you can just
integrate the qttext file in the standard way.
