Microsoft supports ISO-MPEG-4

Microsoft stated last year (vaguely) that it support the MPEG-4 standard.

Read more about this here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/wm7/mpeg4.aspx

...and here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/b/7/6b7691a6-45a0-40f2-8ec6- cdc2eac13647/WMT-MPEG4myths.doc

Is there any way of getting mpeg-4 content to cross plattforms?

1. Viewing ISMA profile 0/1 MPEG-4 content on a Macintosh that was coded/streamed on/from a Windows Plattform
2. Viewing ISMA profile 0/1 MPEG-4 content on a WinTel PC that was coded/streamed on/from a MacOSX Plattform

I see that Microsoft uses the MMS protocol to transport an .asf stream containing mpeg-4 content in its Windows Media Encoder, and Apple is using rtsp (or http) to transport an .spd file containing mpeg-4 content.

Is there any way to get these two worlds to work together? Am I missing something here? The support for ISO-MPEG-4 have little relevance as long as the transport protocol is proprietrary.

Best regards,

Kjell Are Refsvik
