You're right on the money. It's up to Apple to "fix" this really bad limitation.

I'm curious as to why QT may even be rendering type differently on different browsers on the same platform, as the original poster claims (I haven't verified or refuted that myself); that's even worse.

QT should render text the same way on all browsers on the same box. After all it's the same QuickTime engine using the same fonts from the system. I think the original post from Ben said that text would render different on two Macs and the PC.



I don't think all of this is a bug (strictly speaking), but it's surely bad design as it seriously limits the usefulness of text tracks in QT without providing any conceivable benefit.

Totally agreed and I'm sure anyone that has to create alternate tracks depending on platform would also agree with this. Therefore my suggestion to use Flash which can embed fonts within.
