I tried the Sorenson MPEG-4 codec (included in Sorenson Squeeze trial,
free for download) because I heard some good critics (B.W. and others).
Apparently Apple & Sorenson broke up definite now, because the codec
can only be used from within Squeeze and not from QT or QT-using apps
(eg Cleaner). As Sorenson puts it:
"the Sorenson MPEG-4 codec is proprietary to Sorenson Squeeze 3 and is
only available for use in Sorenson Squeeze 3 for MPEG-4 or the Sorenson
Squeeze 3 Compression Suite. " [Sorenson Knowledgebase # 52132]
that limits the application of this codec and means you cannot use this
codec for live encoding (QTBroadcaster), right?
Does anyone know more about this thing? Is it permanent? Will MPEG-4
mean that integration of new codecs in existing tools is getting rare?
Or is this just because this codec was not optimized for live encoding?
