Examples of javascript opening qtl thru text link?

From within an email message, I would like to create a text link that uses javascript to open a .qtl file

user clicks on a text link within an email
the text link launches a javascript
javascript tests for quicktime
if qt is installed....open qtl file on server...movie opens in the user's Qt player
if qt is not installed...go to apple download page

Also, can this be done without opening a browser window? Truthfully, I am quite unfamilar with java.


Does anyone have an example of this...from within an email?
Is there a more bulletproof way to test for / open a qt file from a text link within an email?
